5 Nourishing Autumnal Soup Ideas for a Healthier Season

As the evenings draw in and my favourite "ber" months are fast approaching, soups become the perfect way to nourish your body and warm your soul. As a dietitian I often recommend soups as a versatile, nutrient-dense option - they can be filling, comforting and packed with seasonal goodness.

Here are five autumnal soups to try this season;

  • Roasted Butternut Squash & Carrot Soup
Rich in beta-carotene and fibre, this vibrant soup supports immune health and keeps you fuller for longer

Tip: Roast the vegetables first for deeper flavour, then blend with low salt stock.

Make it heartier: Add a handful of red lentils while simmering

  • Lentil   Spinach Soup
High in plant-based protein and iron, this is a perfect option for satisfying, meat-free meal.

Tip: Add cumin and smoked paprika for warmth

Serve with: A slice of wholegrain bread for extra

  • Chicken, Barley   Mushroom Soup
A great source of lean protein and complex carbs, this one's perfect for post-workout recovery or busy weekdays.

Tip: Use skinless chicken and a splash of soy sauce for umami weekdays

Storage: Freezes well - make a batch and save for later

  • Spiced Pumpkin   Red Pepper Soup
With antioxidants from pumpkin and vitamin C from peppers, this soup supports your immune system during the cold season.

Tip: Add a pinch of chilli flakes for gentle heat

Weight management twist: Stir in Greek yoghurt for creaminess without the extra calories

  • Minestrone with Autumn Greens
A classic Italian favourite, loaded with seasonal greens, beans, and pasta for a wholesome, balanced bowl.
